Discover Highlands, NC

The Mountain Retreat & Learning Center is located 4 miles southwest of Highlands, NC. Less than a two hour drive from Asheville and two and a half hour drive from Atlanta, the resort town’s population is approximately 1,000 year-round residents and an estimated 20,000 during the summer months.

There are plenty of fun activities to do around Highlands – many of them outdoor. There are trails that suit the experienced hiker and trails for beginners. Maps of trails on and off The Mountain property can be found in the office. Whether you want to hike to one of the area’s 250 breathtaking waterfalls or find the perfect overlook of the Blue Ridge Mountains, there are activities suitable for all ages.
