Background:
I was born in Jacksonville, FL and lived there until college. I have a BA from Vassar College and a MPA (Masters of Public Administration) from Syracuse University. I was a program evaluator, evaluation unit supervisor, and assistant director in the City of Syracuse Office of Federal & State Aid Coordination. Earlier, I was an administrative assistant in a local volunteer services bureau and an assistant manager for an apartment complex.
Over the past nineteen years, I have held a number of leadership positions in my Unitarian Universalist congregation, including executive board president for four years, building committee chair, capital campaign committee co-chair, personnel chair, and membership chair.
What attracted you to The Mountain?
Our family learned about The Mountain from Mountain supporters at the UU Church of Tallahassee. My children attended Youth CONS and Mountaincamp. Both were ASCENDERs, and one was also a C.I.T. and counselor. Their Mountain experiences were formative in their development into socially and environmentally conscious young adults who are committed to doing their parts to make the world a better place. They had lots of fun, too! I wanted to give back to The Mountain for providing my children with such wonderful experiences.
What would you like to accomplish in your Board role?
I hope to do my part to: broaden our vision for The Mountain while maintaining continuity with our first 30 years; ensure the future of The Mountain for generations to come – physically, financially and programmatically; and strengthen the Board of Trustees in a collaborative and mutually supportive yet independent relationship with staff.
About your family:
I’ve been married to Bob Deyle for 35 years. Our children are Anna, age 25, and Ethan, age 23.
What do you find most important in life?
To me the most important things in life are a loving and supportive family, good friends, honest relationships where we can be ourselves, spending time in nature and honoring the sacred web of life, and trying to live the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism, the basis of The Mountain’s core values.
I hope that many more children and adults can experience and enjoy The Mountain. I don’t have grandchildren yet but look forward to sending them to MountainCamp when I do!
