The Mountain: Survey on future direction

Dear Mountain Members and Supporters,

The Board of Trustees has begun a process of gathering information from members and supporters of The Mountain to establish a shared vision for the future of the organization. We began this process at the annual Members’ Meeting Memorial Day Weekend with small group discussions.  We discussed what we can learn from our experiences when The Mountain has been at its best.  We also talked about things that we should try to preserve even as we change. Building on all this, we also proposed what kind of organization we want to be in the future.

Your input is an important component of this process. We have developed a brief survey in which you can reflect your agreement or disagreement with certain practices and programs and also offer additional comments and suggestions about the programs and services at The Mountain.  A summary of the results of the survey and the Members’ Weekend discussions will be included in a future Mountain publication.

All ratings and comments from the survey will be anonymous -- names will not be attached to any of the stories, suggestions, or examples. The ideas will be analyzed for thematic content and used to draft The Mountain vision statement for the future. The draft statement will be presented at The Mountain Board of Trustees meeting in November, 2011 for adoption. Once adopted, the statement will be shared with Mountain members and supporters.

Following adoption, trustees and staff will work to bring policies and practices within the organization in alignment with the vision. These policies and practices will impact areas such as member and supporter participation, orientation, development, retention, trust, sustainability, and more.
